Julie,
Thank you for your response. The baptism source was obtained by a cousin
from the Vicar of Llanwynnog in 1985! He wrote:
"Joseph Davies Baptism Reg. 271. April 9, 1820. Father Joseph Davies. Mother
Elizabeth Morgan. Unmarried at the time, both from Llandinam.David James,
Curate performed the ceremony. There is no date of birth."
I have contacted my cousin since your reply and he tells me that he later
found this entry in Llandinam Church baptisms:
"MP: 139. Bapt. April 9, 1820. Joseph, illegitimate son of Joseph davies and
Elizabeth Morgan, both of Llandinam. Entry 271 Baptism."
Am I right to assume that the Vicar of Llanwnnog would also be the Vicar of
llandinam, and that Joseph was probably bapt. in Llandinam, which is where
the Vicar obtained the information?
My Joseph Davies (bapt, April 9, 1820) moved to Radnorshire. 1841, aged 20,
M.S. living at New Inn, Llanbadarn Fynedd. Married Jane Williams of Llandewi
Ystradenni on March 18, 1844 in Llandewi. 1851: Living at Llanbadarn Fynedd,
aged 32, born Newtown, with wife and 4 children. 1861 he was away from home.
1881, aged 60, employed as a coachman at The Hall, Llanbadarn Fawr, 1891,
aged 71, retired coachman, living at Disserth, Glanhowey. Died Nov. 25, 1893
in Llandrindod Wells. His son Thomas Davies, Coach Proprietor of Builth
Wells was my great grandfather.
Will follow up your suggestions re Llandinam at Powys County Archives - my
cousin lives in the town, but had been researching Llanwnnog records which
are scanty.
Many thanks.

Barbara,
From what source did you obtain the baptism information for your Joseph
DAVIES? Can you give us the full context of the entry and where it came
from? I'm curious to know how it was put that both parents "came from
Llandinam".
If both Joseph DAVIES and Elizabeth MORGAN were baptised in Llandinam, you
should access either the original PR (NLW, Aberystwyth) or a microfilm
(Powys County Archives) or the Bishop's Transcripts (again, at the NLW,
also
microfilmed by the LDS and available through the nearest LDS Family
History
Center).
I could not find your Joseph DAVIES or his father in the area in the 1851
Census. Do you have any census entries showing your Joseph DAVIES?
Regarding the 1837 website you cited, please note that it will only
contain
images of the *indexes* -- not the full information as on a b/m/d
certificate.
Please reply back to the list so everyone has a chance to make
suggestions.
Regards,
Julie Preston

> Hello,

Grandfather Joseph Davies was baptised at Llanwnnog on April 9th.1820. His
parents were Joseph Davies (spinner, by trade) and Elizabeth Morgan who
were
not married at the time. Both came from Llandinam. Can anyone tell me
where
I might find details of their births, or a possible marriage after
1820? I
would be grateful for any help as I have hit a brick wall with this.
