Hello, I am a new member of your mailing list and hope that someone
can
help me trace my great grandfather's birth. His name was Thomas Arnold and on
the 1881
census he lived in Llanrwst with his wife Emma. He gave his age as 38 and
his birthplace as Machynlleth. I have found many Arnolds in Machynlleth area
and further north on the 1881 census, but without his birth date for a
certificate I cannot connect him to anyone!

Hello Patricia,
the 1881 Census entry suggests that your Thomas would have been born about
1843, so should have been 8 in the 1851 Census. There is only one Thomas Arnold
transcribed in the Machynlleth enumeration district in 1851 and he is aged 9,
so I suspect that he is probably yours here are the details (unfortunately his
father was away from home on census night):
ARNOLD Mary, h, m, 43, Wife of a Post-boy, MGY Machynlleth, Garshwn, /f69/p21
ARNOLD Robert, s, u, 16, Ap painter, MGY Machynlleth, Garshwn, /f69/p21
ARNOLD Thomas, s, u, 9, , MGY Machynlleth, Garshwn, /f69/p21
ARNOLD Anne, d, u, 7, , MGY Machynlleth, Garshwn, /f69/p21
ARNOLD Mary, d, u, 3, , MGY Machynlleth, Garshwn, /f69/p21
All the best
Alwyn
