Hi all,
I have just joined the list hoping to find my great great grandmother and
her family. She was HARRIET DAVIES and her father was JOHN DAVIES. She
emigrated to South Australia in 1864 and said she was from Montgomeryshire
and aged 21.
She married for the first time in 1871 in Adelaide and said she was 25, she
married again in 1880 and said she was 31 (her husband was 29), she married
again in 1883 and said she was 30 (her husband was 28) she died in 1922 in
Adelaide and her age was given as 70.
Sth Aust does not put mother's names on marr certs or death certs, so I do
not know her mother's name. I have bought two Birth Certs but on going to
Wales I found that neither was the right one as they both stayed in Wales.
My only hope now is to find out if someone has the 1851 census and they
would kindly look to see if there is a John Davies Head of household with a
daughter Harriet b between 1843 (aged 8) and 1851 newborn. My guess is her
age at first marr was the correct one which would make her about 4 or 5 in
1851.
She named her first two children Josephine Loveday and Joseph Maurice by her
first husband. Her first husband was Joseph Jolly, a Cornishman and his
mother's name was Loveday. Where the Maurice came from I do not know as
Joseph's father was John the same as Harriet's father.
I would love to know more about my Harriet if some one can help.
Pat Milne
