Hi Pat,
I just happened to have the 1851 Mont. CD in the computer and found the
following, I haven't looked to see if there are any more as I have noted her
brother's name is Maurice. It was quite an unusual name at that time so my
feeling is it is the correct family:
Enumeration District of Newtown
Parish of Newtown
DAVIES John h m 35 Fln. weaver SAL Trefeglwys Kerry Road /f208/p2
DAVIES Harriet w m 32 Fln weaver SAL Wothing Kerry Road /f208/p2
DAVIES Mary d u 13 Weaver's dau MGY Newtown Kerry Road /f208/p2
DAVIES William s u 12 Weaver's dau` MGY Kerry Kerry Road /f208/p2
DAVIES Harriet d u 8 Weaver's dau MGY Newtown Kerry Road /f208/p2
DAVIES Maurice s u 4 Weaver's son MGY Newtown Kerry Road /f208/p2
DAVIES Louisa d u 10m Weaver's dau MGY Newtown Kerry Road /f208/p2
I am rather confused by one point.. The family are living in Kerry Road,
Newtown, that is fine and all the children were born in Newtown. I don't
understand the entry for John as he is stated to have been born in SAL which
is Salop (Shropshire) however he gives his place of birth as Trefeglwys
which is in Montgomeryshire and not Shropshire. There is obviously an error
and the only way to find out is to find a Birth Record for John who was born
in 1816 but it will be difficult as John Davies will be nearly as common a
name as John Jones.
There is a Worthen in Shropshire, north east of Newtown and near the border
but I don't know of a Wothing (Harriet's place of birth)
Fln. weaver is Flannel (wool) weaver.
I hope you find this helpful.
Regards,
Margaret Harvey
