Hello, I've just subscribed so am posting my interests.
Family lore from an elderly aunt some years back has it that the
GWILT (GWYLLT) family was from Newtown, Montgomery, and
that the CORBETTs were "of Abermule, Montgomery".
My 2x gt grandparents Edward GWILT married Jane CORBETT in
Walsall, Staffs in 1860.
From the marriage cert Edward was born circa 1830, his father was
Richard. Jane was born circa 1837, her father was Thomas.
I have found this couple in the 1881 census at Walsall (transcribed
as GUILT !), Edward gives his birthplace as simply "Shropshire" (or
did someone else give it on his behalf?), Jane gives hers as
"Kempton, Shropshire". BUT also in the house is her father,
Thomas CORBETT, aged 74 (ie born circa 1807), birthplace "Kerry,
Montgomery", occupation "Farmer retired".
Looking at the IGI in our local library I found a likely candidate -
Thomas bpt 12 Oct 1806 to Peter & Elizabeth CORBETT at "Kerry".
I am aware that there is a "cluster" of GWILTs in the Ceri registers
(from LDS website). Is anyone researching these families, or have
any information on them?
Also a question re the Ceri registers on the IGI and the LDS
website - the record quoted above is from batch C049491, but I
can't seem to get any records using this batch number on the
website, only from C049492, which starts at a later date. I thought
there were more records online than on fiche? Any ideas? Because
of the way the fiche are organised (by forename) I can't find any
other siblings.
Many thanks for any help,
Peter
