Amanda,
The gap between 1876 (possible marriage) and children born beginning in 1881
is rather large. Where did the marriage take place? I would've thought a
son might've been named Humphrey if, indeed, that was John's father's name
but everyone didn't necessarily follow traditional naming patterns. Was
Elizabeth's father named on the certificate? What were their residences at
the time of their marriage and what were there fathers' occupations?
Have you actually ordered the microfilms for 1871 & 1861 (1861 for
Macynlleth) and been unsuccessful in locating at least one of them? Were
they consistent in 1881 and later census returns as to their parishes of
birth? There was a lot of coming and going between that area and just over
the border into Merionethshire, for instance, so I wonder if that's a
possibility. Have you looked at PR's or BT's for Machynlleth Parish Church
(or nonconformist registers) or tried to order a birth certificate for John
REES directly?

Julie Preston

Hi Julie
I have the birth certificate for Myfanwy Rees, which gave me John Rees as
her fathe and Elizabeth Jones as her mother, and a possible marriage in
1876
(which is where the Humphrey Rees as a possible father comes from), but I
don't know if this is the right one. It would be great if I could find
John
/ Humphrey or Elizabeth in the 1861 or 1871 census for the area to
consider
addresses/occupations/family names which may point to whether that
marriage
is the correct one, and then I could progress to ordering Elizabeth and
John's birth certificates.
Thanks
Amanda
