Eileen and Ken,
A search of the 1851 Census of Montgomeryshire (CD pub. by Powys FHS) turned up only 2
BAGLEY families in/around Montgomery -- the first one (below) seems to be the most likely
possibility to be Harriet's family (note the father and brother were both
"Abraham") although Harriet herself is not in the area in 1851 so perhaps had
gone out into service -- probably in Shropshire -- by 1851. It seems odd they would wait
until they were in their 30's to marry -- are you sure they didn't have children
prior to the one born in 1865? Have you found the family in all available census returns?
If they didn't marry in Harriet's home parish, it's very possible they
married at the nearest Registrar's office as was not uncommon at that time.
To locate Harriet's baptism, the Bishop's Transcripts (BT's) for the parish of
Montgomery are held at the Hereford Record Office and the original Parish Register is held
at the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth, with a microfilm copy held by Powys County
Archives, Llandrindod Wells, Radnorshire (Powys). I do not believe the LDS have
microfilmed the Montgomery BT's - a search of the online LDS website IGI did not
produce a baptism for Harriet Bagley ca. 1833.
As for John Turner, I did not find a 20-year-old blacksmith anywhere, so he may have
already left the area by 1851. The parish of Criggion/Crugion was formed out of the
parish of Alberbury (Salop) in 1864 so I would recommend you check the BT's for
Alberbury which are held at the Hereford Record Office or the Parish Register held at the
Shropshire Records and Research Center, Shrewsbury, and locate his baptism entry.

Subject: JOHN TURNER/HARRIET BAGLEY
Dear readers
I have just joined your mailing list on behalf of a friend who is new to family history
research and does not have access to a computer or the internet. At the moment all he has
is as follows -
John Turner - blacksmith born in Criggion c1831 married Harriet Bagley born Montgomery,
Montgomery c1833. The marriage could have taken place c1864 but no record found as yet.
This couple had the following children who were all born in Shropshire.
Frederick William b 1865 Ministerly
Helen b 1872 Ford
and
Frank Abraham b 1874 Hookagate.
We are not doing too bad bringing this research forward but neither of us are au fait as
yet with Welsh records, this, plus the fact that births of both parents are prior to Civil
Registration are causing us some difficulties on where to research next.
Would anyone please be able to point us in the right direction. Any help would be much
appreciated.
Kind regards
Eileen Crook and Ken Turner
