Dear readers
I have just obtained a copy of a marriage certificate dated 2 July 1855 for John Turner -
Blacksmith s/o Edward Turner - Blacksmith and Harriet Bagley - Schoolmistress d/o Abraham
Bagley - Schoolmaster all of Criggion.
My question would be to ask whether anyone would know anything about schools in this area
at this time. My friend's research shows many members of her family could neither read
or write, in fact even up to the late 1890's some were still illiterate. So to ask
what may appear a stupid question - what qualifications or such would my Bagley's have
needed to take up such positions.
