Just in case this might come in handy in the future, here is an EDWARDS
family in Newtown, 1851, living at The Bank (a street/area). There's a Mary
Ann, but she's a bit older than the bible entry you have -- still, if the
bible was written in much later, people's memories weren't always completely
correct. They wouldn't be the first family to move down to S. Wales to work
the mines, if that's what happened.
Note: The earlier EDWARDS couple I sent you -- the wife's name was also
Mary Ann. Suspect they will turn out to be the "grandparents" your John was
sent to live with later.

Also suggest you request a lookup in the 1861 Census for Newtown, posted on
the Mid-Wales Lookup Pages at:

If John EDWARDS (then age 10) was living with his grandparents, he might be
there by 1861.
I take it there were no places of birth given for Mary Ann or the other
children in the bible?
