Hi Berwyn,
My very best wishes to you on your forthcoming marriage.
You managed a visit to the area without it raining! That must be a first,
we regularly visit Llanidloes, the place of my birth and I don't think my
husband has ever seen it in the sunshine! It never spoils my enjoyment at
being in the area.
I did an advance search of the 1881 Census and this seems to be the only
item where a John and Martha Jones lived. You didn't give the ages so I
have no idea if they fit.
David Peate hasn't written to the list for some time, his e-mail address
from a recent issue of the Record, the Montgomeryshire Genealogical Society
magazine is peate(a)tesco.net
This is the item I found, I couldn't find Brynmane Mawr but found Brynaire
Uchaf but I expect you have that entry, ask if you don't. It actually came
up as Brynaer Uchaf
Regards,
Margaret Harvey

Later in the day I can look at the 1851 Census for you if no one else has
come up with anything.

Subject: Llanbrynmair lookup request
I'm BAAAAAAAAAAAACK!
And wow, did I have a wonderful trip to Wales! With the most wonderful
girl
in the world! who is going to marry me June 29!!!!! Lucky me!!!!!
1. I found Brynairie (properly Brynaerau - hill of skirmishes ) Uchaf
farm,
Llanbrynmair, and met Joneses who claim the farm has been occupied by
the
same family since 1863. If so, they are my relatives, because my
GGrandmother, Martha Jones married Evan Jones of Cemmaes Bychan, and
provided me with my paternal grandfather, John E. Jones, farmer of Wymore,
Nebraska. Unfortunately, Tommy Jones, aged 80+, who could recite the
whole
family history, had recently died. Familiar story.
REQUEST: can someone see who farmed Brynaire Uchaf in 1881, 1891, and
1901?
In 1871, my G-Uncle Richard Jones and wife Ellen were in charge, and Taid
John, with brothers William and David (all born Cemmaes) were staying
there
because their father, Evan Jones (formerly of Cemmaes Bychan) had
died of
TB
at RUCKLEY, nr. Dorrington, Salop (ref. tombstone at Cemmaes). Soon
after,
Richard also died young. Who took over? A brother?
2. REQUEST: Can someone tell me where Brynmane Mawr (sic) is located in
LLanbrynmair? This is the earlier residence of the Edward & Martha
Joneses,
later of Brynaire Uchaf.
3. REQUEST: Can someone tell me who was at Penybont farm (there may be two
in different townships), LLanbrynmair, in 1841 and 1851 census? Was it
possibly a John and Martha Jones?? If so, a mystery of an error in the
Evan
Jones (Cemmaes) and Martha Jones (Llanbrynmair) marriage record 18
March
1848, may be explained.
NOTE: David Peate, you told me two years ago that Penybont was not the
right
home for Martha, but that marriage record was all I had to go on at
the
time. The census clearly proves it wrong, and you right---as usual, I
might
add. Please forgive me for not calling on you while I was there. We
were
so
very rushed, with all the things we had to do, that I simply
didn't get
organized.
4. Can someone find a marriage for John Jones with Martha Hughes, a few
years before 1800 when their daughter Martha was born? I have loads of
clues
that Martha Hughes (my GGG-Grandmotherwas the half-sister of Ezekiel
Hughes,
clockmaker, later of Cincinnati, Ohio! If so, wow do I have
relatives!
After spending a month there in Jan-Feb, during which it actually didn't
rain at all one day, I am more than ever in love with my ancestral
homeland,
Cymru Fach. We almost bought a house to live in there!
