I wondered if anyone had any ideas on what I could do next to find out more about James
ANDERSON who was a sergeant major in the Yeomanry round about 1871 - 1881. In 1871 James
was living at Llwyn Terrace, Llanfyllin. He was then a Sergeant Major in the
Montgomeryshire Yeomanry, aged 52. By 1881 he was a Chelsea Pensioner, having previously
served with the Royal Artillery for many years, and lived at LLwyn Hall in Llanfyllin with
his wife and daughter.
I have looked at two books about the Mont. Yeomanry but there was nothing in them of much
help I have also looked at Llanfyllin records (electoral rolls) with no success.
I think he died between 1881 and 1891, but there is no record of his death in the
Llanfyllin parish registers.
I employed someone to look up his military records in the PRO at Kew but with no success.
In the census he was noted as having been born in Scotland, and his marriage certificate
in 1855 indicates his father was Robert - all too vague to enable me to pin down his birth
records.
I'm not sure where to go from here and would be ever so grateful for any advice, ideas
etc - perhaps on where I could get more information on the Montgomeryshire Yeomanry, maybe
there is somewhere they keep records on individual soldiers?
