Hello Lists,
For anyone who is a subscriber to
Ancestry.com, please take notice!
Perhaps some of you are already aware of this but, for those who may not
know, I received an email from
Ancestry.com informing me that my
subscription will expire in two weeks. (They have been phoning me
repeatedly but I've been ignoring them -- I hate solicitation calls.) What
I neglected to notice, apparently, when I first subscribed to their service,
is this policy, repeated in their email:
"To renew you need to do nothing, we will simply bill your account for
another year for the low rate of $69.95."
"If you wish to cancel your subscription, please call us before you are
automatically renewed at 1-800-ANCESTRY, then hit prompt number 4, between
8:00AM and 5:00PM MST. Please note that cancellations must happen over the
phone so we can verify that the actual account holder is canceling the
membership."
I have noticed that months might go by without my accessing this service. I
decided to let it lapse and sign up again in the future when I found it
would be helpful. I did not realize they would automatically charge my
credit card unless I phoned and cancelled my subscription (which I just
did).
I learned my lesson: READ THE FINE PRINT!!!! I should know better. :-)
Here's hoping I've helped someone else avoid being automatically renewed if
they made the same mistake.
Best regards,
Julie Preston
