Denise,
I have the 1851 Census for Montgomeryshire (CD pub. by Powys FHS) and found
most of the MORRIS' in the parish of Llandyssil were canal boatmen ---
possibly all related in some way.
Your Evan, however, must've been over the border into Shropshire when the
1851 Census was taken. This *may* be his parents' entry as there are no
other David MORRIS' about:
1851 Census, Parish of Llandyssul (also spellt Llandyssil), MGY:
MORRIS, David h m 70 grocer
MGY Llanfair Village /f143/p2
MORRIS, Jane w m 59
MGY Llandyssil Village /f143/p2
MORRIS, Edward s 12 scholar
MGY Llandyssil Village /f143/p2
Jane (above) may or may not have been David MORRIS first wife.
Meanwhile, as I said, the other MORRIS' all seem to be boatmen (apart from
one who was a farmer born in Trefeglwys).
MORRIS, Edward h m 30 boatman

MORRIS, Margaret w m 44

I would suggest you look for Evan's christening in the Bishop's Transcripts
(via the nearest LDS Fam. Hist. Center) for the parish of Llandyssil,
Mongtgomeryshire, *plus* check the parish of Montgomery, Montgomeryshire, as
some of these older MORRIS' were born there, in case that's where they were
living when he was christened. The mother, Jane, was born in Llandyssil, as
you can see, while the father, David was born in Llanfair (Caereinion)
parish.
I would also suggest you see if anyone has the 1841 Census for Llandyssil,
MGY, to place Evan still "at home" with his parents. If no one on the lists
(also sub and post to the Powys list) has this part of the 1841 Census, you
can order it on microfilm from the LDS FHC.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
Julie Preston

Hi there,
My name is Denise Lawrence-jones and I am currently researching my Mothers
family, name Morris. I a trying to locate my ancestor Evan Morris, born
around 1826 in a place I think is or was called Llandysyl in
Montgomeryshire. His father is noted as David Morris. I cannot find out
any
more about him until about 1871 when he is living with his family in
Shropshire, working as a master of a boat there called the Cygnet.
If anyone can help me with my quest, I would be very grateful.
Regards
Denise
