`rather a convoluted way to follow`
Well, shall I tell you a little story. The last time I used the Llanidloes fiches must
have been around 2 - 3 weeks ago. I have a sophisticated filing system which ensures that
I place the correct fiches back in their place after using them. But - it didn`t work!
because I couldn`t find them and I have searched high low backwards forwards and etc.
Hence resorting to using the surnames list which, as it turned out, is in fact a pretty
quick way of matching an unusual name to a particular area!
Ironically, I am sure it was you I did a search for around the Trefeglwys area the last
time I used the fiches, so afraid you`re getting the blame.
Keith. (ps. No Rees in sight)
Keith,
Well done -- rather a convoluted way to follow but I gather you're using just the name
indexes and not the complete household entries "as enumerated".
I take it you found no evidence of a Rees LUCAS anywhere in the 1841 indexes you have (in
case he wasn't at home on census day)? Since the 1841 Census does not list
relationships or marital status, there's no way to know if Elizabeth was already
widowed or not.
Mike, that leaves the lead from the IGI christening of Ann, showing father Rees LUCAS and
mother Elizabeth, and a search of FreeBMD or
www.1837online for a possible death between
1837 and 1841 and, if no luck, contact the Powys County Archives for a lookup or two in
the Llanidloes parish registers.

Subject: Re: [WLS-MGY] LUCAS Llandiloes
Hi Mike,
I have followed the other thread re your query.
This may help a little. Taken off the fiches of Montgomeryshire names by Montgomeryshire
Genealogical Society.
Montgomeryshire names LUCAS at 1841
Ann LUCAS age 65 Berriew
Ann LUCAS age 50 Llanllwchairn
Ann LUCAS age 35 Montgomery
Ann LUCAS age 12 ----------------------------------------Llanidloes, Great Oak Street.
Ann LUCAS age 11 Llanllwychairn
Ann LUCAS age 6 Montgomery.
Edward LUCAS age 75 ag lab Churchstoke
Edward LUCAS age 60 Weaver ------------------------Llanidloes, Smithfield.
Edward LUCAS age 55 M --------------------------------Llangurig, Goodground.
Edward LUCAS age 11 Montgomery.
Elizabeth LUCAS age 55 ---------------------------------Llanidloes, Smithfield.
Elizabeth LUCAS age 45----------------------------------Llanidloes, Great Oak Street.
Elizabeth LUCAS age 25 Llanmerewig.
Other LUCAS names associated with the above addresses:
Margaret LUCAS age 14, ---------------------------------Llanidloes, Great Oak Street.
Mary LUCAS age 20----------------------------------------Llanidloes, Great Oak Street.
Jane LUCAS age 40-----------------------------------------Llangurig, Goodground
John LUCAS age 20-----------------------------------------Llangurig, Goodground.
So, from this we see family Edward, Jane and John LUCAS, Llangurig, and Elizabeth, Ann,
Margaret, and Mary LUCAS, Llanidloes, alas no father present. I hope its of some use to
you.
Wouldn`t those Parish Registers be handy!!

hi, listers,
my first message to this list, but if it is anything like the others I'm
on, then I know I'll be at home!
I am trying to trace back the family of Edward LUCAS b. sept.1853 whose
mother was Ann LUCAS. Father not registered. Edward was born in the
Union Workhouse at Llanwynog, but subsequently said (on census) he was
born in Llandiloes. I have had sight of a family tree which has 5
generations of Edward LUCAS' stretching from 1640 to 1776 born in and
around Llangurig. I believe Ann to be the grandaughter of Edward LUCAS
b. 1776. I also believe (with less certainty) that this Edward was
married to Sarah Lewis in 1803 at Trefeglwys. My problem is to trace
Ann's parents and tie them in to this Edward.
Can anyone help, please.
thanks in advance,
mikew
