Mike,
If referring to a parish, the only likely one would be "Guilsfield" -- an Anglo
attempt at spelling the word as spoken by Sarah and also likely considering her first
employment was in Shropshire.
The IGI shows evidence of ROGER(S) families in/around Guilsfield in the 1700's, as
well, but her surname may have come from her father's forename, Roger -- almost
impossible to know as there's no year of birth, either. If she left
"Gilsel" 26 years before 1789, did she leave at age 12-14 to go "into
service" for a well-heeled family who travelled? If so, that might put her birth at
around 1750. All guesswork, of course.
Sounds like she would make a good character in a film, though -- "Moll Flanders"
comes to mind! ;-)
When she was apprehended, does it say what became of her? Her home parish would be
responsible for her and there might be "Settlement papers" between the two
parishes to determine such responsibility, whereupon she would be turned over to a bailiff
or sheriff and passed on until she was "settled" in her home parish. These
settlement papers would be in any surviving parochial papers -- for Guilsfield, they would
be held at the National Library of Wales.

Subject: [WLS-MGY] SARAH ROGERS
Hi list,
I have found an interesting document in Derbyshire that relates to a Sarah
ROGERS, this document an examination regarding her states she worked for many important
persons in London, Sir Geo WARIN, John LOCKWOOD of Harley Street, Lord LUDLOW, Lady
SHELBORNE, ,Earl of THANET, Lord ARCHER and Sir John LINDSAY.
She later went to see friends in Stockport, and was apprehended in Ashbourne,Derbyshire
as a vagabond.
She claims to have been born in what looks like Gilsel, Montgomeryshire. Her first job
when she left Gilsel was with Richard LEICESTER of Rowton ,Shropshire.
It is dated 1789. She said she left Gilsel 26 yrs ago .
I have been unable to locate Gilsel, any one know where it is,anyone related.
