Dear Lists,
I am forwarding a posting from Gareth Hicks, listowner of the
WLS-Cardiganshire and Dyfed mailing lists, also hosts the South/West Wales
Lookup Exchange pages and has taken the GENUKI pages on as a personal
challenge. The addition outlined below is well worth having a look at.
Best regards,
Julie Preston

Subject: [WLS-CGN] Latest Genuki material--cross posting
<National Library of Wales journals.
Here is the latest extract onto the Wales Genuki pages from these
journals;
Evans, Elwyn. 'Machynlleth Toll Books'.
National Library of Wales journal Vol VI/1, Summer 1949.
This is a full copy of the background information and an INDEX of names
appearing in the original toll books --- representing buyers and sellers
at
Machynlleth Fair in May and June 1632, plus a map showing which of
over 50
parishes they came from.

As a spin-off to the extraction I've included an analysis of names,
fascinating to see what % of farmer
types in north mid & west Wales *apparently* already used surnames as
against patronymics in 1632.
Unless one of you can put a different interpretation on the raw figures of
course :-)
