Subject: DAVIES / LEMM / JENKINS
Hello List,
I'm new to this list and my main interest in in the BEBB family, but in my
great-aunt's genealogical notes there is information on a DAVIES family of
Newtown that married into my BEBBs of Newtown. The line as I have it is:
Molly DAVIES, mother of
David DAVIES who married Betsy JENKINS. My grt-aunt's note says "David
Davies killed in Civil War"
David and Betsy had three daughters
1) Mary Ann DAVIES DAVIES (married a Mr. DAVIES, may have stayed in
Newtown,
because there are notes about her sisters having emigrated but
nothing
about
her.)
2) Harriet DAVIES, born June 8, 1847
3) Elizabeth DAVIES, born Feb. 7 or 8, 1850.
Elizabeth and Harriet came to the US from Newtown. My grt-aunt's note says
Harriet "came over about 17 yrs. old Married at Thomas Richards' house.
about 24 yrs. old came to Jamestown, NY 1876." The lack of punctuation
here
makes the timing of these events a little ambiguous! Was she married
in
1871?? [Thomas Richards lived in Blackington, Massachusetts, USA] Harriet
seems to have married Thomas LEMM, who I believe also came from Newtown.
Elizabeth married George BEBB who came to the US in April 1866 with his
sister Mary Ann BEBB DAVIES and his brother Charles BEBB. George and
Elizabeth BEBB adopted my great-aunt (who made all the genealogical notes)
in 1880: Annie May Jones Bebb was George's niece, adopted by him when her
father gave away his children after the death of his wife in 1880.
Notes on a 1902 Ordinance Survey map of Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn say
"Harriet Lemm lived Elizabeth Bebb with grandmother Molly Davies & father
David Davies", indicating a house on the north side of Pool Road just east
of Stone Street near Tibbet's Mill. There's a note on Tibbet's Mill
"aunties
father carded here", but which auntie is a mystery. Maybe David
Davies
before he went to the US??
If anyone has a connection to any of these folk, I'd love to hear from
you.
