Dear Lists,
Ken Pepper has corrected the information he initially provided me (see below). Again, I
checked Bill Barker's CD and found a good possibility but the baptism is a day and a
year off and the wife of Reynold was Ann, rather than Sarah.
Since Ken states that John (not Jeremiah as he thought) dictated this tale himself, it is
difficult to dispute as one would, obviously, know the name of one's own mother.
Any thoughts?
Dear Julie -
This will teach me to look at my notes rather than go from memory! Here is
the correct info!
My ancestor John Clayton was born in Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire July 21,
1771. He was the son of Reynold and Sarah Clayton. His wife was Susan or
Susannah. She was the daughter of Evin and Susan Johns and was born May 14,
1768. They sailed from Liverpool on May 29, 1801 for the US.
When John Clayton was very old he had his granddaughter transcribe his story
about coming to the US. I have a copy of that letter.
Ken
