Alwyn,
Records for the 3 old counties (Montgomeryshire, Radnorshire and Breconshire) that now
comprise Powys are held at:
Powys County Archives
Llandrindod Wells
Radnorshire
Powys
website:
Also, the Newtown Area Library holds microfilms of all census returns for
Montgomeryshire.
Wills up to 1858 are held at the National Library of Wales but the wills post-1858 are
held at Shropshire Records and Research Center, Castle Gates, Shrewsbury -- website:

Subject: Montgomeryshire County Records Office?
Where in Montgomeryshire are archives kept?
I would like to see the Census returns for Cemmaes 1841-1871 and any chapel
records which may be available for the area, but I can't find details of the
sort of county records office, that seems to exist in the other old counties
of Wales for example Dolgellau, Llangefni, Ruthin.
Does such a repository exist in Montgomeryshire?
On the off chance that somebody else might be related here is the family that
