Hi John,
Could it Aberrhiw, on many maps as "Berriew", a beautiful village, 5 miles
south of Welshpool.

Subject: Fw: Place name
I would be grateful for help in deciphering a Montgomeryshire [birth]
place name given on the 1851 census in Pontesbury [Salop]. The word appears
to have 8 [9 at most] letters altogether. The first four letters are clearly
'Aber'. There are two following letters the second of which could be 'r'
or
'v' [or neither] and the word seems possibly to end with 'is'. It looks,
therefore, something like 'Aber**is' - though my interpretation of the
second part [syllable?] of the word is open to question.
With thanks for any assistance on this one.
John
