Hello all,
The joint co-ordinators of the project to place the details of the index books maintained
by local registrars on to the North Wales BMD website have advised me that they have added
the following during the last few days.
Welshpool Registration District - Deaths Indexes:
Llansan(t)ffraid ym Mechain sub-district
1837 - 1950 (16,016 deaths)
Meifod sub-district
1837 - 1841 (459 deaths)
Meifod was a very short-lived sub-district - it was absorbed into Llansan(t)ffraid ym
Mechain in 1841!
Please note that we believe these locally created indexes are more reliable and probably
more useful than the national 'GRO' indexes. Although they are not as prceise in
date terms as they give the 'year' rather than the 'quarter' they are
based on a more restricted geographical area - sub-districts, rather than a whole
district.
Many thanks to the volunteers from Montgomeryshire
Genealogical Society who have assisted me in the photocopying, transcribing and checking
of these indexes. Also to the Registrars who have given me considerable help.
Work is now progressing on the remainder of Montgomeryshire bmd. There are volunteers
currently typing the Newtown index books - many still to be done and will take a few weks
yet! Is there anyone out there who is keen to help typing and is local to the Welshpool
area??
