I'm a new member and would greatly appreciate any help that other members could
provide.
My great-great-grandmother, Mary DAVIES was born in Welshpool, Montgomershire in
approximately 1832 (based on her entries in several later English census returns). My
paper trail begins with her entry in the 1851 census returns for Liverpool, England. She
is listed as a boarder, living with her husband to be and his family. She married my
great-great-grandfather, David MURRAY, the following day at St. Martins in the Field
church in Liverpool. According to her marriage certificate, her father was John DAVIES, a
stone mason. Mary remained in England until she (supposedly) immigrated to the US in the
late 1880's/early 1890's with 2 of her daughters.
I would greatly appreciate a lookup in the 1841 Montgomeryshire census for John DAVIES
with a daughter Mary (she would be approximately 8 years old). I have no idea what
Mary's mother's name is -- I have been unable to find her here in the States to
find a death certificate for her and none of her UK paperwork has her mother's name on
it.
Does anyone have any favorite resources for Welsh genealogy? I was thinking of joining the
Montgomeryshire Genealogical Society, but was hoping to first find some confirmation that
Mary was really from Welshpool first.
Thank you very much your time,
Lisa
