Hello Ron,
I have looked on the 1861 Census to see if I could find Thomas Rowlands and
came up with this one. The age is a couple of years out but I couldn't find
another Thomas that would be likely to be the one. By the way it may be
that the name Griffiths is Edward's mother's maiden name. It is interesting
to see in this that the head of the household is an Edward and if it is the
correct family he is the grandfather of Edward Griffiths Rowlands. Edward
Griffiths' has a sister Sarah who could have been named after her
grandmother. Do you have a birth certificate for Edward Griffiths, it
should be easy enough to get one from the Superintendent Registrar in
Newtown as you know his age and father's name? It would give his mother's
name and you would then know if this is the correct family. I would be
interested to know if these entries are correct as I have a tenuous link by
marriage to David Rowlands. I won't go into details here but can let you
know direct.

unmarried, still living at Penybank but his father is dead.

Subject: [WLS-MGY] ROWLANDS of Llanidloes and Welshpool
Hello list
I'm back on board in pursuit of the following.
My grandfather's sister, Lucy Hannah NOURSE, married Edward Griffiths
ROWLANDS
in Welshpool PC on 30 August 1902. Both were resident in Welshpool
at the time. Lucy was born in Preston, Lancs, Edward ( a compositor
according to their MC) in Llanidloes. He was the son of Thomas ROWLANDS
(grocer) of Llanidloes.
>From the 1881 census I have the following:
Thomas Rowlands Head 39 Grocer born Llanidloes
Jane do Wife 38 Grocer's wife do
Thomas J do Son 7 b. Llandinam
Edward G do Son 6 b. Llanidloes
Margaret J do Daughter 4 do
Sarah A do 2 do
Martha do 6mo do
The 1891 shows the same names, minus Martha, plus Evan A Rowlands aged 7.
I cannot at the moment track them in the 1871 or the 1901.
Before I go much further (Rowlands being a pretty common name in those
parts), does
this ring any bells with anyone on the list?
I shall be grateful for any help.
Many thanks
Ron
