Hello -
I am a new subscriber to this listserv after having found that my 3x great grandfather
was
actually born in Hirnant, eg
Enoch Southall b. 5 Feb 1829 Hirnant, Montgomery, Wales - parents Benjamin &
Elizabeth
Southall.
I haven't managed to work out why the family was actually in Hirnant for Enoch's
birth -
most puzzling since the parents were married in Warwickshire in 1809, had some children
in
Staffordshire 1813-1819, some more in Worcestershire 1821 - 1827, then somewhere along
the
line went to Wales for Enoch's birth in 1829, then back to Warwickshire in the 1851
census
and then eventually on to Australia in 1857.
The 1841 census appears to have been transcribed for Montgomeryshire (Hundred of
Llanfyllin, comprising the parishes of Hirnant).
If possible can someone please have a look for :
a) Benjamin & Elizabeth Southall with son Enoch on the 1841 census - perhaps they
were
still in Wales ?
b) any Southall's or Horton's in Hirnant around 1841 - perhaps they were visiting
a
relative.
or is this scenario familiar to anyone to be able to offer a possible reason for the
family to travel to Wales.
Thank you for reading.
