Stan,
You know, I knew if I just stuck with this awhile I'd come across something
:-)
From the 1851 Census, Montgomeryshire (CD pub. by the Powys FHS)

This appears to be Evan JONES, farming 335 acres on a farm called Coedtalog,
in the parish of Llanerfyl, who was also born in that parish. His sister,
Mary, lives with him and was born in Llanerfyl, also. They're both
unmarried. Living with them is their nephew, Ellis JONES, born Llanerfyl,
and 4 servants.
I'll have another look at the 1881 Census and see if I can locate the place
or the family. (I don't have the intervening census years.)
