Stan,
You're quite welcome -- I was very glad to help and I enjoy a bit of a
challenge when it comes to other people's families, especially when I make
some quick progress as I was able to do in this case.
You might also contact the local genealogical society in the area that Mr.
Willis lived and, possibly, the LDS -- both likely places for him to have
deposited his notes on the JONES'.
I, too, am a member of both the Powys Family History Society and the
Montgomeryshire Genealogical Society and I've found so much benefit from
both memberships. I would think you're bound to hook up with someone else
researching your family.
As for your EVANS query, you really need to get the more recent (i.e.,
post-1891) information (birth/marriage/death certificates) in order to make
any connection to families in Montgomeryshire with such a common surname.
(If you hadn't had Coedtalog to go on, for instance, looking for JONES' in
Montgomeryshire would be impossible.) Unlike the U.S., where we only hold
the census returns for 80 years, the UK holds them for 100 years, so the
1891 Census would be the most recent census readily available and,
unfortunately, one would have to have some idea of the parish as it's not
indexed like the 1881 Census.
Thank you very much for the kind words.
Best regards,
Julie Preston

Julie Preston,
Thank you for all your work helping me with the Jones family of Coedtalog.
I
am fairly new to genealogy and I have only been working on our
families
for
about 4 years. During this time I have chased down my wife's
family here
in
the States and my mother's family in British Columbia. Gradually
I have
attempted to find information in Great Britain and have not been too
successful. The greatest help given me are from the people at Powys
History
Center and Montgomeryshire Genealogical Society. I have been a member
of
both groups for two years and they have been a great help. When I attempt
to
cross the Welsh East border to other counties I have become
disillusioned
of
the disdain of overseas cousins.
Julie, you are unbelievable, I have all the tools you have suggested I
need
in order to pursue my kin yet you have found information I have
overlooked.
I have the names missing from the 1881 census below-unfortunately I
wasn't
smart enough to fill in the blanks.
