Hi Dottie,
I may be able to help just a little bit. Here are the Elizabeth GRIFFITHS of
around the right age at 1851 on the Powys (MGY) census transcription. 1. is
with her family but
2. and 3. I am afraid are not which is unfortunate. Re. the stated birth at
Oswestry, don`t be too concerned over that one as I have been tripped up on
it. All three villages
could very easily be classed as Oswestry as they are all `only just down the
road` as it were!! Can you imagine the conversation between the enumerator
(English) and Elizabeth in 1881---- `" Where do you come from luv?" -----
"Llansanfraidd ym Mechain"----- "Where the hecks that?" ---- "
It`s near
Oswestry" ---- "That`ll do for me luv"
Llanfyllin is an area as well as a village so again, Llanfyllin would cover
the three villages mentioned so you have a task to sort out which one she is.
Another spanner in the works might be that as her birthplace in the 1891 is
given as DEN Llanfyllin (which is in MGY) it could be a misspell for
Llansilin which is in DEN!
When I have a little more time I shall have a little look on the MGY 1841 on
my trusty fiche reader for you.
As I live `just down the road` from Llandudno I will try to find out where
Pant y Ffynnon is and whether it`s still there and if it is I will take a
digital of it for you.
Regards, Keith Roberts.
