Thank you so much! Love the scenario between English enumerator and Elizabeth! I
will check these Griffiths and
thanks for the idea that Llanfyllin could be a misunderstanding of Llansilin in DEN.
This could make sense and I will definitely
pursue it! About Pant y Ffynnon - A gentleman named Kenneth Dibble wrote a series of
books about this whole area, and one of them covered
Pant y Ffynnon and its neighboring houses with a short history. Apparently Pant y
Pfynnon fell into disrepair in the 1960s and now is only a
pile of ruins. I am going to Llandudno in Sept. or October and hope to see the area,
at least. I have made a couple of friends via email in this area
and will get to see them, too. Email is great! Many, many thanks for your help. If
I find Elizabeth I will let you know.

Hi Dottie,
I may be able to help just a little bit. Here are the Elizabeth GRIFFITHS of
around the right age at 1851 on the Powys (MGY) census transcription. 1. is
with her family but
2. and 3. I am afraid are not which is unfortunate. Re. the stated birth at
Oswestry, don`t be too concerned over that one as I have been tripped up on
it. All three villages
could very easily be classed as Oswestry as they are all `only just down the
road` as it were!! Can you imagine the conversation between the enumerator
(English) and Elizabeth in 1881---- `" Where do you come from luv?" -----
"Llansanfraidd ym Mechain"----- "Where the hecks that?" ---- "
It`s near
Oswestry" ---- "That`ll do for me luv"
Llanfyllin is an area as well as a village so again, Llanfyllin would cover
the three villages mentioned so you have a task to sort out which one she is.
Another spanner in the works might be that as her birthplace in the 1891 is
given as DEN Llanfyllin (which is in MGY) it could be a misspell for
Llansilin which is in DEN!
When I have a little more time I shall have a little look on the MGY 1841 on
my trusty fiche reader for you.
As I live `just down the road` from Llandudno I will try to find out where
Pant y Ffynnon is and whether it`s still there and if it is I will take a
digital of it for you.
Regards, Keith Roberts.

census: All of the above family are listed as born in Llandudno except for
Elizabeth, who is shown as coming from Oswestry
1891
census: Elizabeth Roberts Widow, age 61, charwoman, shown as head of house, now her
birth place shown as DEN, Llanfyllin (isn't Llanfyllin
in Montgomeryshire? Only Marianna, 17 and Jane E. 13 remain at
Pant-y-Ffynnon.
Any information about possible Griffith connections in Montgomery, especially if there is
a record of Elizabeth's birth and marriage, and also possible Edwards connections will
be greatly appreciated. >>

Hi Dottie, I am an EDWARDS with a great-grandfather, John Henry EDWARDS,
(not too uncommon, heehee) born in Newtown, Montgomeryshire in July of 1872.
He was the son of John and Martha COOPER EDWARDS. Possible grandparents are
Richard and Martha EDWARDS. John (1872) emmigrated to USA around 1890 and so
obviously difficult to trace. Thought I'd put the information out
there...you never know. Peggy Edwards in RI
Hi, Peggy: I know practically nothing about my Edwards connection,
but I am keeping your email for when I get more information. So far I only know that
Elizabeth Griffith married an Edwards and must
have had a son named George H. who appeared in the 1871 Llandudno census as part of the
Roberts household and was designated as "stepson, age 17). I also have a Catherine
Roberts who married David
Edwards and had a daughter, Catherine, baptised at the family home, Pant y Ffynnon in
1857. Edward and Margaret Edwards had a son, Samuel, baptised in Llandudno in 1856.
Probably no connection because
it's in Caernarvon and not Montgomery, if Elizabeth was indeed from Montgomery she
probably had siblings. I will try to trace them. Good luck! Dottie, Philadelpia,
USA

Peggy,
John William Edwards, B 30 May 1851 in Pinchiner-Lower Green,
Newtown,
Montgomeryshire. He came to Detroit, Michigan and his sister, Sara,
married my g-grandfather, William G. Lownds.
Could there be a connection? Would love to find John's & Sara's
ancestors. Willing to share what I have (from Sara to present).
God bless.
