My great-great grandparents John Breeze(c1813) and Sarah Hamer (c1812)
married in Llandinam Parish Church 29th December 1837, when both were said
to be of that parish. Sarah and John in 1841 lived at Castell-y-waun,
Llidiartywaun, a small house that may have been a 'Ty-un-nos', a house built
on common land in a single night. When they left it was occupied by an
Edward Hamer, suggesting the property was Hamer owned.
I have been unable to identify Sarah's father Richard among the many Richard
Hamers around then.
Family lore says Sarah before her marriage was known as Miss Hamer the
Goron, a farm north of Newtown off the Llanfair Road, and the property was
later occupied by John and Ann Rees. Ann was certainly related and was I
believe Sarah's eldest daughter. They were Baptists after marriage if not
before, and because the Baptists did not believe in infant baptism, the are
no baptismal records. All the records for Newchapel Baptist Chapel were
destroyed in a fire at the church.
I am really looking for someone with a knowledge of the families to confirm
the relationship between Ann Rees and Sarah, to explain how the Bennett's of
Pentre-rhedyn (near the Goron) are connected, and to identify the Hamer Clan
to which Richard belonged. I have some data on Hamers from the late Dorrie
Carver but not enough 'modern' stuff to make the connection.
I would be very grateful for any help or suggestions as to how I might help
myself
