Rod,
Here in the entry for Allen & Ann GRIFFITHS in Blaenau Festiniog, MER.
Everyone born in Llangynog, MGY, except the 14 year old Elizabeth, so it
would appear they went back and forth to live.

There's only 1 SWANCOTT family living in Merionethshire, in the same town --
perhaps a brother of Ann's?

I went through all districts in the 1851 Census for Montgomeryshire (CD pub.
by Powys FHS) and found no SWANCOTT/COAT families living in Llangynog or
vicinity -- no Ann's b.ca.1838 that were born in/around Llangynog, so
perhaps her family moved out of that area for a time around 1851.
I could find no elder SWANCOTT's in the 1881 Census in the Llangynog area,
and this is the only SWANCOTT family living in that parish in 1881 -- this
woman is a widow, so perhaps was married to a brother of your Ann:

I would suggest you obtain the 1861 &1871 Census for the parish of
Llangynog, MGY, as it looks like they were there about that time, and
compare all of the information in case the stated birthplaces vary.
I take it you have some documentation which provided you with Ann's maiden
name of SWANCOTT/COAT. Do you already have the birth certificates for any
of the children (certificates, not baptism entries)? Do you have the
marriage certificate for Ann and Allen? Based on the eldest son's year of
birth, they probably married 1860-2 in the Llangynog area. I would suggest
you order his birth certificates and their marriage certificate from the
Supt. Registrar's Office at Welshpool. Details and address can be found on
the GENUKI pages for Montgomeryshire under "Civil Registration:
http://www.rapidagent.co.uk/genuki/MGY/
His birth certificate will provide you with their residence at the time of
his birth, as well as confirm Ann's maiden name. Their marriage certificate
will provide you with both of their residences at the time of marriage, as
well as the fathers' names and occupations of both bride and groom. If they
were both, indeed, born at Llangynog sometime after June 1837, you should
also be able to order their birth certificates, based on the information you
find from their marriage certificate.
If you strike out there, consider the closeness of Llangynog to the borders
of Denbighshire and Merionethshire -- her parents may have moved over there
for work so the marriage may have been in one of those counties.
Best regards,
Julie Preston

Does anyone have any info on Ann(e) Swancoat(Swancott - or any other
variation) age 43 at 1881 census.
I think she married Allen Griffiths at Llangynog. They had several
children
there before moving to Blaenau Festiniog c 1870's.
I believe her parents were William and Jane and they might have originated
from England. Apologies for the sketchy nature of the information but this
lady is proving very elusive, so far.
Thanks
Rod
