Linda,
Any children born in Llanidloes would've been registered in Newtown. My
best advice, however, would be for you to *begin* with the U.S. 1850 Federal
Census (presumably, in the place your ggf was born or elsewhere, if you know
they left that place) and find the family entry before trying to find PUGH
children in the N. Wales BMD Index. In my opinion, it would've been very
unusual for them to leave young children behind -- different if the children
were already grown and made the decision to stay behind. The copy of the
marriage registration was obviously obtained by the couple so they could
take it with them when they emigrated to prove they were married (and to
present to their new church -- probably also Baptist). Since they were
married in the Baptist church, their children born in Wales wouldn't have
been baptised, although the facts of their births may have been entered into
the register, if it has survived. Suggest you use the nearest LDS FHC (or
online catalogue
www.familysearch.org ) to see if they've microfilmed such a
register.
Once you have a more firm idea of the names and dates of earlier children,
you should be able to order their birth certificates directly from the Supt.
Registrar at Newtown (who don't use the BMD index numbers), by giving them
the parents' names (especially the mother's maiden name). The Newtown Supt.
Registrar's office should have a duplicate of any existing registers from
that Baptist Chapel but the children were required by law to be registered
(after July 1837) while they were not required to be baptised or recorded as
having been born in any other register.
Good luck!

Subject: [WLS-MGY] family from Llanidloes
Dear Montgomeryshire list people,
I have a copy of the marriage registration (page 6, No. 11 the Register
Book of
Marriage) of my ggg-grandparents Owen Pugh (father was David Pugh - living
at
Smithfield) and Elizabeth George (father was Richard George - living on
Short
Bridge Street) September 20, 1839 in the Baptists Chapel in Llanidloes in
the"County of Montgomery". The copy was made Feb 26 1848 by Thomas Jones
the
registrar.
The only child that I know they had was my gg-grandfather who was born
1849 in
the USA. I'm trying to find out if there were other children born during
that 9
year period when they lived in Wales before moving to the USA.
I haven't been able to find Llanidloes in the list of Registrar
Sub-districts on
the North Wales BMD
website. Could anyone tell me the sub-district where Llanidloes would be
listed?
Also would anyone know what would happen to a child(ren) they left behind
in
Wales or if they didn't have children during those 9 years - why not?
Any help ....and/or ideas or guesses, you can give me would be greatly
appreciated.
Thank you
Linda Friedlander
