I have a William BREESE (b1853) who married a Catherine OWEN (b 1855) in Machynlleth on 22.12.1876.
They farmed Tyn y Plas, Uwchgareg (1881) for some years then moved to Caerbati, Mallwyd (1891/1901).
They had 5 children I know of: Humphrey b 1878, John b 1880, Dorothy C b.1885, Jonah b 1885 and Morris Sydney b 1897.
Jonah ended his days unmarried at Nant Bran, Llangadfan (I think). Dorothy supposedly married a farmer from Llanarmon. I know nothing of the others.
Does anyone have any knowledge of this family?
I'm interested the the descendants of Charles and Elizabeth Moses. He was
born around 1803 in Llanmerewig, she in 1818 in Llanfyllin. There son,
Charles is my great grandfather. He was born April 25, 1856. He eventually
went to Glamorgan and married Sarah Jane Pimm Keirle.

Hi Folks,
My lot are HUMPHRIES, although spelling could be a problem. Starting
with Robert born about 1821, probably in Meifod. He married a Mary and
they lived at at Rhosfaw. I think Robert was an estate worker (I think
their house still stands today.) They had three children John Richard,
Elizabeth and Mary Jane. In the 1840s they moved to Bilston in the
Black Country. I have no idea what happened to the girls, but John
married a widow Emma TOWNSEND, nee BATTY, who later died. He remarried
someone called Emily. They, by 1881, are in Manchester, and within a
few years some of their lads are in the USA in Texas and Kansas.
Cheers

I am interested in any information on these ancestors:

Hello all,
Vic Roberts, one of the coordinators of the northwalesbmd project, has advised me that the last tranch of indexes of Montgomeryshire deaths between 1837 to 1950 has now been uploaded.
ALL births and deaths for the county are now on the site! Work is continuing on the remaining marriages files!
This uploading was of the subdistricts:
Newtown Registration District :
Deaths - Tregynon sub-district
1837 - 1950
(4,354)
Deaths - Llanidloes Upper sub-district
1837 - 1896
(4,582)
Many thanks to my team of volunteers for their work in
photocopying, transcribing and checking the above indexes; and to the staff of the Register Offices in the county for their help and assistance with the project.
These indexes can be found at:
www.northwalesbmd.org.ukwww.gpmgogleddcymru.org.uk
Many I am sure will have noticed that the local indexes do not have the ages at death. They do have the advantage however in that, as they are arranged in sub-districts, they can be more locally identified.
The best advice is to use both these local indexes and the national GRO indexes, some of which is available online at www.freebmd.org.uk
Best wishes and happy hunting,
Bryn Ellis, project leader for Montgomeryshire
All,
Yet more interests, mine are ..
William Griffiths (b 1814 Chirbury or Marton) who married Elizabeth Passant
(b 1815 Heldre or Alberbury) on 20th May 1840 at St. Mary's, Welshpool
Also, Isaac Preece (b 1807 Worthen) who married Elizabeth Gough (b 1820
Mainstone) on 14th April 1840 at St. Nicholas', Churchstoke.
Anyone have an interest including either of these?
Regards,
Glen Griffiths
Here is another lurker who rarely has any requests or anything to
contribute. Am interested in the name HARDING anywhere in Montgomeryshire but
particularly around the Berriew area. My earliest Harding, I believe to be John
Harding Edwards son of Edward Edwards and Margaret Harding christened June 1782 at
Langyniew who seems to have dropped the name Edwards for some reason.
My other lines are William JONES born c 1780, possibly at Berriew or at
Llanyniew who married Mary ? born c 1782. She maybe Mary Evans.
Their daughter Mary born 10 Nov 1806 married Thomas BROWN who says he was
born at Llandinman c 1798.
My other line is ROGERs from Berriew who were mostly tailors. The earliest
that I have is Richard born c 1746. This line and also the Harding line takes
in GETHIN/GETHYN.
Thanks Anne

Hello Listers,
My name is Suzanne DODD and have been searching for a few years for clues as to the origins of the following.
My husbands line includes John PARRY who was born in the Welshpool area circa 1816,1848 finds him a widower marrying in Chester, his father given as Griffith PARRY a butcher by trade.
In one census Montgomeryshire was given as place of birth then another gave Welshpool. How many parishes are there in
Welshpool, where would it be best to start in trying to locate
John's Christening/Baptism?
Any other guidance gratefully received.
These PARRY'S went on to be connected to MESSHAM'S
and GARRETT'S in Chester.
Obviously I'd be delighted if these names strike a chord with anyone.
Thanks
suzanne
My family history interest in the county is my great great grandmother, Mary
Griffiths. Mary was born at Newtown in about 1819, the daughter of William
Griffiths, a tailor. Mary moved to Shropshire where she married my great
great grandfather, James Brunt, at Lydbury North in 1841.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who has a connection with or
knowledge of Mary and her family.

I've seen a couple of e mails re people interested in the BENBOW
family at Trefeglwys.
If you don't know already, the BENBOW line appears in the ASHTON
family tree in a couple of branches. An earlier tree can be found
here:
http://www.llwynonn.eclipse.co.uk/ashton/Ashton+original+tree.gif
The ASHTONS resided at Geseilfa, which although referred to as
Trefeglwys practically sits next to Llawr-y-glyn.
Would be interesting if we could link up the ASHTONS and BENBOWS more.
There is usually ASHTON discussion on the Powys list.

Suzanne,
Welshpool is a parish and a town. Since this was given as his parish of
birth, the parish registers and Bishop's Transcripts for Welshpool Parish
Church would be the obvious place to start. Don't overlook the
nonconformist chapel registers, as well.
If no sign of John Parry's baptism or entries for any children of Griffith
Parry, you'll have to widen the search to nearby parishes. Since Welshpool
is on the Montgomeryshire border with Shropshire, your search could take you
into those parishes.
There's no Griffith Parry (any occupation) listed in the 1851 Census in
Welshpool or in the entire Enumeration District. Perhaps he had died or had
also removed to Chester or other area.
See GENUKI pages (Montgomeryshire) for parishes/towns to orient yourself
with the area and for the whereabouts (and surviving years) of parish
registes and BT's.
The (Montgomeryshire) parishes nearest to Welshpool would include:
Berriew
Buttington
Castle Caereinion
Forden
Guilsfield
Leighton
Llanfair Caereinion
Llangynyw
Pool Quay
Trelystan

Hi All
We have been trying to trace out my wifes family but the JONES side has been very difficult.
The name JONES and the fact that they lived on the border between Shropshire and Montgomeryshire has not helped.
We would dearly like to make contact with anyone else tracing this family, especially descendants of these mentioned on the 1891 census.
Pentrenant, Churchstoke, MONTGOMERYSHIRE.
Charles JONES aged 31 Ag Lab born in Newcastle, Shrops
Bessie 36 born in Clun
Albert Edward 10 born Churchstoke
Charles 6 ..
George 4 ..
Elizabeth 1 ..
___________-
* Albert Edward born 1881 is my wifes Grandad
* Bessie is Elizabeth CHEESE born 1856 in Clun
We have the marriage cert for Charles JONES and Elizabeth CHEESE, .April 1880 in Churchstoke.
Any help you kind listers can give would be gratefully appreciated.
Many Thanks
Dave and Jean SHELDON
Thank you for your response, Alison. I have looked at the early family tree
you mentioned, and I've seen some of those names before. The problem we have
in looking at the Trefeglwys parish registers is that the families are
difficult to sort out from each other. The story given to me by one person is that,
when Richard joined the Society of Friends, the other Benbow's, who were
cousins, tried to force the issue of tithing to the official church, and that drove
the two lines apart. Richard's children were baptised at Trefeglwys Parish
Church, but they were Quakers when they immigrated during their teenage years.
Although I've not been able to access the Dolobran Monthly Meeting records as
yet, my understanding is that the family joined that congregation. My
understanding is that some Quakers did continue to use the parish churches for
weddings and baptisms during that era, so I don't have a precise date for Richard's
conversion to the Society of Friends.
It's a little difficult to do research from across "the big pond," so I would
be glad to hear any thoughts of yours on the subject of the Benbow family.
It was very helpful to me when we visited Wales and the area of Llanidloes,
Trefeglwys, Llawr-y-glyn, Staylittle, and Llandinam three summers ago. I'm
interested in all the Benbow lines, as it helps me to sort them out, and also
because I'm interested in the family as a whole.

Hello,
I'm researching my husband's family. His great, great grandfather, David Jenkins was born in Llanidloes circa 1828. At some point in time he moved to Dowlais, Glamorgan where his daughter was born in 1857. I don't know where he was married in Llanidloes or somewhere in Glamorgan.
