Hi,
I am looking for surname ISRAEL. Family legend is that two brothers came to America from Wales. Don't know where but seems that Benjamin and Buckner along with Benjamins wife Polly migrated in the late 1700s or early 1800s. They had a son born in Tennessee about 1815. Two known brothers Amos and Mose(s) stayed in Wales. Would appreciate any information.
Thanks

John,
I'm sorry -- you're right -- I don't know what I was thinking when I felt
the 1851 details didn't match. The thing that threw me, I think, was that
4-yr-old Elizabeth's surname is shown as THOMAS, rather than HUMPHREYS (a
clue to her father there?). There are a few THOMAS males in the
'neighborhood' (both married and unmarried) of about the same age as
Elizabeth who make likely suspects. I wonder if there might be some
notation by the vicar in the parish register.
I looked again in the 1851 Census for Carno and found the ASTLEY family,
erroneously (I presume) listed as ASHLEY, living in Llanwnog. (There's an
18-yr-old David ASTLEY in Carno, an unmarried servant, probably a brother to
Hugh.)
ASHLEY Mary h w 39 Pauper fly weaver's
wife MGY Llanwrnog
/f472/p9
ASHLEY Richard s u 10 Pauper
MGY Llanwrnog /f472/p9
ASHLEY Hugh s u 6
MGY Llanwrnog /f472/p9
ASHLEY Jane d u 3
MGY Llanwrnog /f472/p9
I found no grave for Evan HUMPHREYS in the materials I have. Perhaps they
couldn't afford to errect a monument when he died.

Julie Preston

Ardy,
These HUMPHREYS people aren't mine -- I was replying to John in North Carolina so they're his. Also, "Jane" is definitely *not* another name for "Elizabeth.
Sorry!

Hi Julie:
I am wondering if YOUR Hugh and Elizabeth Humphreys is the same as was listed in a relative of mine. My family history goes to the BOUND/REES. In that family my uncle in WWII sketched out a JANE HUMPHREY (another name for Elizabeth that
moved to South Wales. Do you suppose there is a connection. I have another source to contact and will see if they can help out. Thanks.
My g. grandfather Rees EDWARD J REES
Married Ann Bound-Youngest of Thomas and Mary BOUND
Mary's Maiden name was Jones. Edward J. REES father's wife's maiden name also JONES. Don't know if a relative.
I will try to find the NOTE he left and reply more in detail. Edward J and Ann came to NW Iowa in 1881 from Wales. Ann's siblings went to Canada. Ardy Stoesz

John,
I was hoping to locate the ASTLEY's (Hugh & wife Elizabeth nee HUMPHREYS and
her daughter) in the 1881 Census or in the Memorial Inscriptions for Carno
or Llanwnog but no luck. Did they emigrate?
There are a number of ASTLEY graves in the MI's for Llanwnog and 2 (Rachel &
Richard) in Carno Parish Churchyard.
As you can see from the entry below, the people at Wern Cottage, Llanwnog,
do not appear to match the details you've provided.
From the 1851 Census of Montgomeryshire (CD pub. by Powys FHS):
Parish of Llanwnog:
HUMPHREYS Elizabeth h w 70 Pauper ag. lab.'s widow
MGY Llanidloes Wern Cottage /f463/p16
HUMPHREYS Elizabeth d u 26 Dressmaker
MGY Llanwrnog Wern Cottage /f463/p16
THOMAS Elizabeth gd u 4
MGY Llanwrnog Wern Cottage /f463/p16
I found no sign of Hugh ASTLEY in the area in 1851.
Do you have source information other than the IGI for this line?

Is Jane another name for Elizabeth? If so there may be a connection with a relative. Ardy Stoesz

Hi
I am just wondering wether SKS could please look up on the 1871/1891 census for WILLIAM WYNN. In 1871 he would have been 36 years old, born LLANDYSSILIO, SHROPS and married to MARY with a son SAMUEL 2 years old. In 1881 they lived at TANYDORLAN, MEIFOD, MONT.,
Thanks
