A book which is available in LDS family history centres, and in many large
reference libraries throughout the world is J. Youde W. Lloyd's. "The History
of the Princes, the Lords Marcher, and the Ancient Nobility of Powys Fadog,
etc"
This book is worth checking out by anybody who finds details of ancestors
from Montgomeryshire, Denbighshire, Merionethshire or Western Shropshire who
are of yeoman status or above.
I should think that there is a fair chance that your Einws ab Einion would be
in it.

Dear Lists,
I received the following query from Barry Griffiths and decided to forward it to the Powys and Montgomeryshire lists in hopes someone may have access to Bartrums (early years) and could look up his ancestor for him. Please reply to the lists and also to Barry Griffiths directly at: mailtobbgriffiths(a)sympatico.ca
I notice the LDS have the early years of Bartrum on microfiche in Salt Lake City (as well as the later years in book form) but that the fiche is not to be sent to family history centers.
Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to help Barry.
Regards,
Julie Preston

Subject: Einws ap Einion
Dear Julie:
My ancestry is Welsh but during the 15th century my branch of the family migrated to Shropshire from Goddwy commote in Powys and became known as the Gruffudd's of Benthall. I have two questions: the first deals with fame or reputation and the second deals with the name in the lineage. Here goes! The most distant of my known ancestors was Einws ap Einion -- who would have been born shortly after 1300 and appears to have come from the same general area in Wales. ( I think that it is close to Forden)
Unfortunately, I do not have access to Bartrum's or any kind of database that would give me more information about this ancestor. I would really like to know if this person is listed in Bartrums, and if so, was he of any significance with regard to Welsh history?. Obviously he had a spouse, but I don't have any idea of her name. What I believe is true is that the son of Einws was Hywel or David? ( which is correct? ) and that that person's son was Hew - whose son Gruffudd ap Hew ( and my 18x Grandfather) first purchased the Benthall and Shrawardine properties in Shropshire in 1437.
If you can help me by shedding some light on these distant ancestors I would be deeply appreciative.
Yours truly,
Barry M Griffiths LCol (Ret'd)
