Title of articles “Old Rent Rolls”
The articles are reproductions of the Wynnstay Rent Roll 1785-1792 for Llandderfel,
Llandrillo, Gwyddelwern, Betws and Llysan, Bettws y Coed, Llanycil and Llanuwchllyn
(Cynllwyd)
The lists include the names of the tenants who occupied the Wynstay holdings in these
ares. The entry for Llanycil includes Cynythog.
2) Several of the same holdings were offered for sale in 1858,
See advertisment in the North Wales Chronicle, May 15, page 1. Also availaable at Welsh
Newspapers Online (National Library of Wales).
Advertisment lists the holdings not the tenants.
3) You may also be able glean background information from the obits for Thomas and

I am descended from John Williams (ca1790-1877) and Elizabeth Roberts (1797-1852) of
Llwynmawr, Llanycil, via their daughter Catherine (1831-1879) who married John Thomas
(ca1827-1905) of Pandy Mawr/Bryncocyn/Plas Madog/Cloddiau Llidiardau.
Again a slightly neglected part of my family history - there is a sketch on Ceiri
Griffiths 2nd book p242.
Other children (all baptised in Capel y Parc):
Elinor bap 1819
David bap 1822 of Llwynmawr
Elizabeth bap 1827 of Cynlas married Thomas Ellis (of some fame).
Back to the parents, Elizabeth was the daughter of Edwards Roberts (ca1767-1842) and
Eleanor (ca1774-1864) of Tyn Ddol.
Eleanor was in turn the daughter of Rheinallt Richard will 1802 of Tyn Ddol and Elizabeth
(Beti Tyn Ddol).
I don’t know John’s 1790 baptism - but can trace a Williams family of Llwynmawr back to
the early 1700s.
Any help on all these families would be appreciated!
