I would first of all try
http://familysearch.org/ - There may be some
pointers to your family, but you may well need to actually visit the local
records office to actually scrutinise the parish records, which will have
far more detail than is available online. The staff at Dolgellau are very
helpful.

Subject: [MER] The JONES family at Towyn in the early 1800's
Hi listers,
I'm currently attempting to trace the family of my great great great
grandfather Jonathan JONES who was born at Towyn.
In the 1851 Census, he is with his first wife Ann and family at Garn Vach,
Aberystruth in Monmouthshire (HO107 Piece 2447 Folio 496 Page 14). In this
Census he is said to be aged 36 (born 1815).
In the 1861 Census they are living nearby at 13 Back Row in Aberystruth
(RG09 piece 3997 folio 69 page 44). This time he is said to be aged 50 (born
about 1811).
His wife Ann dies at some point over the next few years, and on 31st
December 1864 he marries his 2nd wife, a widow, Elizabeth HARES nee FRANCIS.
In the 1871 Census, they have moved west from Monmouthshire to Glamorgan,
and are found living at Llwynypia, Ystradyfodwg, Pontypridd (RG10 piece 5385
folio 81 page 34). In this Census he is said to be 55 years old (born 1816).
In all three Censuses, his birthplace is given as Towyn. On his 2nd
marriage, his father is named as John JONES whose occupation was recorded as
a Farmer. At the moment I don't know Ann's maiden name, but what I do know
is she was born in Cardiganshire. Whether they married in Monmouthshire or
not, again I don't know. None of their children were given uncommon
forenames, (Benjamin, John, William, Maria, David, Thomas), so it's not been
easy trying to determine what Ann's maiden name may have been from the
official GRO birth indexes either.
I know tracing a family with the surname of JONES is far from easy, but I
was wondering if anyone was aware of a JONES family at Towyn during the 2nd
decade of the 1800's, where the father John was a Farmer and who had a son
Jonathan most likely born around 1815 ish?
Many thanks for any help or suggestions, best wishes to all,
Jon
