Hi Kerry
Good question. There are three parishes coverin Bala : Llangywer, Llanfawr
(aka Llanfor) and Llanycil. The town is on the edge of all three.
The people at the records office in Dolgellau are very helpful if no-one
else on the list gives you the answer you need. Their address is
archives.dolgellau(a)gwynedd.gov.uk
There are also loads of non-conformist rgisters. These are all covered on
the IGI and there are copies of the originals on microfilm at the FRC in
London. Unfortunately, if you want the CofE registers, you will need to go
to Dolgellau - as I am having to do in the new year
Good luck
Charles

Subject: [MER] Bala Poor Relief
Hi there. I'm new to the list and inexperienced in researching in
Wales.
Hoping to find out more about Merionethshire.
I'm trying to find the location of church records and poor relief
records for Bala. Does Bala come under Llanycil parish?
I know the Bala Poor Law Union was formed in 1837, however I'm looking
for records for the period 1765-1788.
Thanks Kerry
