Hello everyone,
Yesterday I saw what seems to be my WIDDY family on what appears to be a
statistical view of the 1841 census of Merionethshire. That sounds very
ambiguous, I know, but it's all in Welsh, and having no knowledge of that
language apart from what can be looked up in a dictionary, I'm only
guessing. The heading of the page and the entry concerned are as follows:
CYFRIFIAD 1841 MEIRIONNYDD
Poblogaeth (heb Edeirnion) 33,398
Di-enw 36
Nifer â chyfenwau estron (amcangyfrif) 702
Widdy--------(38) 5
My guess: WIDDY is the surname - all the other entries appear to be surnames
too, (38) is the parish (Gwyddelwern, according to the list which appears on
the same site), and I guess 5 is the number of people bearing that surname.
"Cyfrifiad" is counting, "chyfenwau" is surnames,
"poblogeath" is
population.
Could someone please tell me if I've guessed right, and maybe clarify what
else the heading says? And is the actual census available anywhere, in any
shape or form? My WIDDYs had a son in Cynwyd (not far from Gwyddelwern) in
1835 (which made them a family of 5), but our next record of them is in
Liverpool in 1849, so if it is them it would help to fill in some gaps -
they are very elusive!
Any suggestions or advice will be much appreciated,
Loretta
