Hi Alwyn,
Yes did look at that entry but Richard's mother was Jones.Read
the film at LDS but the only Lewis Thomas was marrying a Catherine
Griffiths so concluded that it was not my Richard.Which was quite a
blow. Will get in touch with Dolgellau who knows I might stike it lucky
What was the English version of the name "Celynin" you sent me
Many thanks
Marilyn

Hello again Marilyn
These details from the IGI transcription of the Bishops Transcripts for
Llangelynin look like a likely match for your Richard:
RICHARD THOMAS
Christening: 19 MAY 1821 Llangelynin, Merioneth, Wales
Parents:
Father: LEWIS THOMAS
Mother: CATHERINE
The IGI also contains details of a Griffith Thomas baptised 26 SEP 1824 in
Llangelynin to a Lewis & Catherine Thomas, who may be a brother.
The actual Parish Register entry that the above would have been taken from
will also include details of the father's abode and occupation. To obtain
this further information there are two options
One would be to see if there is a LDS Family Research Centre near you, if
there is you could ask them to obtain a copy of the microfilm of the Bishop's
Transcripts for you to view. If you choose this option you will need to tell
them the film number which is:
Film 0104545
Alternatively you could e-mail the archivist at dolgellau Records Office and
ask them if they would be willing to look up the record for you. They may not
be willing to do so and even if they are they may make a charge (it is not
something that I have ever tried, so I don't know)
The e-mail address is:
archives.dolgellau(a)gwynedd.gov.uk
All the best
Alwyn
