Dear Alwyn
I wonder if it would be possible please to look in the 1891 census in
Dolgelley at a house named 'Pantycae', the home of Robert Hughes a farmer
and slate maker living with wife Susannah and 11 children. They were there
in the 1881 census. None of the family are to be found in 1901 so am very
interested to see if they are there then.
Many thanks if this is at all possible.
Carol Twite.
The quick answer is that they are not at Pant y cae in 1891, as the 1891
occupants are Hugh and Ellin Davies and family.
I have tried all sorts of searches on the 1901 and I have failed miserably in
locating any possible matches to any members of this family.
Failing to find 13 people, might be an unlucky number thing, but is more
likely to suggest emigration Premature death and UK in-migration should, at
least, have left one possibility in 1901.
Are the Hughes' of Pant y Cae ancestors or a collateral branch?
If they are ancestors, you must know what has happened to at least one of
them, in order to have traced the ancestral link. If this is the case, let me
know what you have and I will try again.
If they are collaterals, they may have ended up anywhere in the British
Empire or the New World. Have you tried the Ellis Island Site, for possible
emigration to the USA?
If you use Rootsweb mailing lists or
Ancestry.com message boards, there may
be suggestions on how to find émigré collaterals in New Zealand, Australia,
and Canada. Unfortunately such subjects are outside my area of knowledge.
Sorry to return such a negative result. If you find anything which you think
might make a difference or which might aid further research into this family,
please don't hesitate to post again.
All the best
Alwyn
