Dear Alwyn, Wow!
Iam really impressed.
I had had a feeling that my Great grandmother may have been called Gwen. I
have photographs of her.
At my grand parents wedding, she is featured but without her husband. I
wonder what happened to him? I have no reference to him.
Thank you for your speedy reply
All the best,
Gwyneth

Hello Gwyneth
They say that you should start family history with peoples recollections of
your family but not to rely too heavily on their failing memories without
checking out the facts from more reliable sources:-)
I can't believe that it can possibly be as long ago as 1979 that William
Morris died, I must be getting old myself!
The index to the 1901 Census might be a little more reliable than my memory,
it contains the following family:
Cadwaldr Morris 26 Born Merioneth Festiniog (living in) Merioneth Festiniog
(occupation) Certificated School Teacher
Gwen Morris 40 Born Merioneth Festiniog Merioneth Festiniog
Annie Morris 15 Born Merioneth Festiniog Merioneth Festiniog
John Morris 13 Born Merioneth Festiniog Merioneth Festiniog
William Morris 11 Born Merioneth Festiniog Merioneth Festiniog
Joseph Morris 9 Born Merioneth Festiniog Merioneth Festiniog
Edmund Morris 6 Born Merioneth Festiniog Merioneth Festiniog
To see the full entry that these index items come from you can to go to
http://www.census.pro.gov.uk/
Where they will charge you £5 to view them!
The 1881 Census which is on line for free at
http://www.familysearch.org/
has these details about Cadwaladr Morris, the father of the above family:

The Bishop's Transcripts for Trawsfynydd for 1799-1800, Which will be
on-line
soon, have only one likely candidate for a baptism of Richard Williams
November 10th 1799 Richard son of William Owen and Margaret his wife (note
in
rural Wales at this time people take their surname from the father's first
name and not his 2nd)
I have only had a quick look, but I can't spot a marriage for William Owen
and Margaret at the moment
All the best
Alwyn

Thank you for your reply - but the knowledge that I have on my great
uncle
William Morris is:
The Reverend William Morris O.B.E. M.A. ( 1889 - 1979.)
Became Bard in 1934 and Arch druid in 1957,58 &59.
His works include "Ogof Arthur" 1934, "Clychau Gwynedd" 1946,
"Sgwrs a
Phennill" 1950, Atgof a Phrofiad" 1967, " Oriau Difyr a Dwys" 1963,
"Cwmni'r
Pererin" 1967, "Crist Y Barrdd" 1975 and "Hedd Wyn" 1969.
His daughter Glenys Roberts edited a collection of his works called "Canu
Oes" in 1981. I would love to source and obtain a copy of this - any
ideas?
I believe he had 2 daughters - Glenys( Roberts) and Gwenno (Thomas) - I
was
in touch with Gwenno for a couple of years before she died.
What I would dearly love is reference to William's parents so that I may
trace them - any ideas?
