Might the initial J of what you take to be Jestiniog be a flowing capital F?
I wonder if the photographic van was how he described being a mobile
photographer? I know there were several photographers in the area in the
late 19th century but unfortunately do not remember their names at the
moment.

Subject: [MER] Photographic Van
Hello Listers
I have a photograph of my great grandmother Margaret Foulkes taken in
1871. She is
dressed in all her finery and the photograph appears to have
been taken in a studio.
On the back of the photograph is the photographers stamp, J Hughes,
Photographic Van, Jestiniog.
Since I've been searching for this lady for many years, am I
correct in
assuming Jestiniog is perhaps the Welsh way of spelling Festiniog? What
was
a photographic van?
Regards
Harold.
