Message Board Post:
Pleased you found it useful and further to my last.
I had a direct email from a chap who must have seen my post via the link to the
WLS-Meironethshire-L listing. When I checked the list, my response is detached from your
original post and that explains his query. As the question and reply are relevant to you
I've done copy and paste of the emails:

Many thanks for your detailed and helpful information.
Looking at your subject, is the same data/information available on CD's as well as on
film
or microfiche. Your subject tends to imply that this is the case.

It was the original posting that mentioned CD's [part
of the "British Data Archive" purchased from S & N Genealogical Supplies]
and the poor quality of some of the images. The content of my message was in reply to the
question:
"Does anyone know if the microfiches for 1841-71 & 1891 can be purchased
....", hence I only refer to film/fiche.
Having said that, the Public Record Office [National Archive -Kew] do claim to be moving
towards "digital images" in place of paper copies and supply digital images of
other records both in a "download" version and on CD; also the online order form
does appear to accept a request for CD images when
using an RG reference [although I did not complete a full request]. It is therefore
possible they will supply copies of census enumeration book pages on CD, although other
than a £10 min charge, at what cost I can't say, nor do they claim all images will be
fully legible [that's what led to the original posting].
Also be aware, whether fiche, paper or digital images, they do say if you only require a
partial extract from a document series [piece number] you will have to identify the full
reference details including fiche, schedule and page numbers and that can only be done by
examining a copy of the actual
fiche.
Easiest thing to do is email the copying department with your query.

One last point is many local Family History Societies [like Cheshire FHS, are producing a
name index and images on CD for census of their local areas.
Have you checked with any for your areas of interest?
Best wishes
