Doreen and John,
Many thanks for the census information.
I was glad that you confirmed that Penybraich was not on the 1841census since I had also
come to that conclusion when I only had a short time to look at this census a few years
ago. As you will see Pen y Braich is on all the subsequent census returns.
My first reaction was that these were the people I was looking for, since in 1851 -
Evan Jones was 44 (born in Llanycil), Elizabeth his wife was 41(born in Llanycil), their
daughter Elizabeth was 10 (born in Llandderfel) which ties in nicely with your
information. But I was surprised to see that in the 1841 census that Evan Jones was a
school master since in the 1851/61/71 census he was a farmer and gardener. Maybe my
gt-grandfather decided that he wanted an open air life rather than school teaching !
Would it be possible, without putting you to a lot of trouble, to see if the 1851 census
for Llandderfel has two families with these same names especially the name of the family
at TynLlechwedd
I have not been able to find TynLlechwedd on my map .
While we are on the subject of placenames in the Bala area - do you recall coming across
the name Glanygors ? - I have only seen it referred to once in the Llanfor Parish
registers in 1807 but again I have not been able to locate it.
Many thanks,
Regards,
Elfed.
