HelloTricia,
Sorry, I do not have access to the 1871 census for Merionethshire, but I just
had to answer your email for the following reason.
I see you have a four year old Elizabeth Jones born in Arthog. Unfortunately
my cousin has died some years ago, or I know she would have known from first
hand something about yourfamily. I know she would because I once mentioned
that a Mary Jones appeared on a local census (from memory) I think aged 16 born
in Arthog. The girl had obviously come down for work. Perhaps she knew
someone or was related in some way. But my cousin immediately recalled who the
girl probably was. She might have been related to a lady who ran the local post
office at the time. In Arthog village I mean.
You will be wondering what on earth is my reason for writing to you as I
cannot give you immediate help. My grandfather and all his siblings were born in
Arthog. But the surnames I have there are Wynne and Roberts. I suppose it is
not impossible that one of my relations married a Jones somewhere along the
line. I must check to see.
Do you know who Elizabeth Jones eventually married?
I live in the Rhondda, but I have also done research in Dorchester for my
husband's side. Of course, you will know why I mentioned that, because you say
you are from Dorset yourself. No family connections there though, real or
imaginary.
I do hope you get the information you need from someone with the 1871 census.
Best wishes,
Maureen Jenkins nee Wynne
