Hello Ian,
I found the following (brief notes translated from Welsh) in the book
"Cynulleidfa Hen Gapel ,Llanuwchllyn "-
Rev. Michael Jones (Congregational Minister) left the chapel house of the
Hen Gapel and went to live at Weirglodd Wen about 1826. He had to leave the
Hen Gapel and its chapel house because of a disagreement with the majority
of his congregation . He set up a school at Weirglodd Wen and services were
held there for his followers from The Hen Gapel. One of his flock was the
bard, "Tudur Llwyd", John Jones (1774-1854) from Weirglodd Gilfach . Some
of Tudur Llwyd's poetry was not complimentary to the Methodist cause which
did not help with the already bad feeling between the Congregationalists and
Methodists in Llanuwchllyn at that time. It is thought that he was the son
in law of Feurig Dafydd.
In this book there is also some history about Feurig Dafydd who died in 1767
( his will was proved in May 30 1767) He also supported the establishment of
Methodism and Congregationalism in the area and he was considered to be a
"gentleman". His father Dafydd Morgan was a nobleman and Weirglodd Gilfach
was one of the most important houses in Llanuwchllyn.
Thomas Jones ( from Weirglodd Gilfach and later from Deildre) the son of
Tudur Llwyd, was made a deacon at the Hen Gapel in 1841 .
I hope this information will be helpful to you.
Regards,
Elfed Owen.

Dear list,
I wonder if anyone knows anything about the above man also known as Tudur
Llwyd? My gt gt gt grandfather, John Thomas (b1827) lived at 2 of the
addresses connected with John Jones - Pandy Mawr in 1841 and 51 and Plas
Madog in 1881. I wonder if there is a connection? He was said to have
lived with his aunt in Pandy - indeed, an Ellen Jones aged "55" is seen
there on the 1841 census.
Can anyone enlighten me?
Yours,
Ian Thompson
