When I checked this website I did indeed find the 1901 census as I have
used
before, but entry to the 1881 & 1891 censuses leads to Ancestry.co.uk
with
their usual charges. Somehow I don't feel too happy about this
arrangement,
not sure why, maybe The National Archives website should be a bit more
open
about what is happening. "Ancestry" charges seem to be based on a fixed
cost per
printout, or unlimited access for a quarterly or annual subscription. Is
this a good idea??
Hello Jeff
This arrangement was announced a while ago. I'm an Ancestry subscriber
because I have ancestors who did not behave as I would have liked :-) i.e.
they
came from various places and dispersed to various places! Although it is
not
perfect, for me living 100 mls from my nearest FHS which only opens for
short
periods, it is worth the money. It really depends on what you want and how
much
you think it is worth paying.
