To answer some of your questions.
Trade directories - there is a John Roberts Grocer & Draper in Bala in 1828
& 1835, but not in 1840 - although there is a John Roberts, Shopkeeper. In
1840 there is a Robert Michael Roberts, Grocer & Draper.
This leads me to a query - are you searching for a John & Elizabeth Roberts
?- your subject line names the couple as Robert & Elizabeth Roberts but your
message mentions a John.
As to the Llanycil monumental inscriptions - they should be published I
believe quite soon - they have been transcribed but are being checked I
believe. I can tell you that the Moses Roberts you mentioned is buried there
and he lived in 82 High St. I didn't find a John Roberts living in High St
but I only checked out the High St address. I know that it is a very large
cemetery with very many gravestones - some quite old - and the hard work of
those who did the transcriptions is to be admired. It would be well worth
you purchasing a copy when published - keep an eye on the Gwynedd Family
History site; they can be purchased through Genuki as I presume you know.

Subject: [MER] Robert and Elizabeth Roberts
I am looking for the death records for the above named couple. They
lived
in
High street in Bala and ran a drapers shop for many years near the shop of
Moses Roberts.
1) Are there Trade Directories for Bala for the years from 1800 on? John
and
his wife are mentioned in a will in 1806 so they would have been alive
during that time period.
2) Would people in the town of Bala on High Street have rented their homes
from a large estate and if so what estate might that be?
3) Are the monumental inscriptions for the Llanycil parish church being
transcribed and if so when are they expected to be available? Generally,
are
there many tombstones still existing and have they been cared for?
4) Is anyone aware of any records that exist that might help find out when
these people died? There are so many John Roberts without ages in the BTs
for Llanycil that the burial records are not helpful at this point.
Any suggestions or information would be very welcome!
Thanks,
Gwen Cunningham
