Hi,
What I have to say might mean something or might mean nothing at all to do
with your family, but I would not be a true family historian if I did not
mention it.
My great grandparents were John Richard Wynne and Margaret Roberts who came
from from Duffryn Ardudwy near Harlech, but moved to Arthog in Llanellwydd
where they proceeded to produce their fifteen children. A lot of the names make
some sense in a family history way, but there are one or two of whom I don't
know where the names came from.
One of them was called Goronway Wynne. So, to backtrack a little, Margaret
Roberts parents were Griffith Roberts and Catherine Roberts nee Roberts.
Catherine Roberts was working for Griffith before her marriage I believe and
they lived at Gornant Isa, Llanenddwyn Parish. Her father was said to be Robert
Hughes, a quarryman, so I imagine a patrynomic was used here and she was
said to be born in Llanllyfni, Caernarvonshire, also said to be Irish by family
lore. As for dates, then coming forward a little, the fifteen children were
born from 1873 until 1900. Margaret was born 1854 and John Richard Wynne in
1852.
I do have some information on the Roberts line but nothing about Blaina
FFestiniog as far as I know. Mostly I have them around the Llanenddwyn area, but
I have not followed them all through. A few of the Roberts boys died
youngish and I dont know the reason for this either. Too much other family history
to persue to specialise in following everyone on that line, and now there is
no one else left to ask for the origins of the names. I do know there was a
Goronwy Owen in existance so possibly they got the name from from him, not
everyone got names from family I think. There was Cadwaladr Roberts being the
father of Griffith Roberts, and another being the brother of Margaret Roberts
my great grandmother. Another name I have not been able to pin down is
Mynorydd. Any offers?
So there you are, make of it what you will. Oh yes, another thing before I
finish, the family on both sides became Calvanistic Methodists, but some of
the information can be found in the Parish Church records.
All for now,
Best regards,
Maureen Jenkins
