I have had another look at both, but I still can't work it out, sorry.
I couldn't find any sightings of John and Margaret as a married couple in
1861, so I assume they were married between 1861 and the birth of their
eldest in 1863. The eldest child was born in Liverpool, so John and Margaret
may have married there.
This entry appears on the Lancashire BMD index:

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1862
EDWARDS John JONES Margaret Liverpool, St. Martin Liverpool 2114LP/4/86
Might be a wild goose chase, but on the other hand it could be them.
Did you have Margaret's' maiden name - I don't recall. If not you should be
able to get it from one of the children's birth certificates.
All the best
Alwyn

Pwnc/Subject: [MER] EDWARDS - Llanuwchllyn - or Llanfachreth??!!
Hello again everyone,
I am still chasing John EDWARDS b 1836 in MER
I had been convinced that he was born in Llanuwchlyn or Llanycil and I am
not writing off that possibility but someone else has just had another look
at
the almost illegible writing on the 1881 census and thinks that John EDWARDS
may have been born in the parish of Llanfachreth as they seem to think there
is a clear letter 'r' towards the end of the word. So perhaps I have been
looking in the wrong parish!!!
Is there anyone who has access to the 1841, 1851 and even the 1861 for
Llanfachreth who would be prepared to look him up for me? I'm so sorry to
ask
again and I thank anyone who is kind enough to do so,
Thanks for your patience,
Judith
